We responded to many challenges by digging deep and reafirming that we are a community of problem solvers who don’t just talk about innovation, grit, and perseverance, but who lead by example. The coronavirus pandemic forced us to rapidly re-examine our educational delivery methods, engagement tactics, and internal communication structure. We relied on our strengths to deliver the same quality education and level of service in a virtual environment as we deliver face to face. In order to complete the spring 2020 semester with minimal disruption, we leveraged our decade of experience in online learning, along with the ingenuity of our faculty, staff and students, to successfully transition all our spring and summer classes to fully online delivery. Then, for the fall 2020 semester, we also welcomed students back to campus by adding face-to-face and hybrid classes. Read more about our coronavirus response on pages 14-17. Despite the understandable setbacks during this challenging year, I have been invigorated by the professionalism and resilience of our Collat Business community. We are stronger because of these challenges, and we go into 2021 with high expectations and a great plan for success. In addition to our coronavirus response, one of our great achievements of 2020 was the successful adoption of our 2020- 25 Strategic Plan, a complement to the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Forging the Future strategic plan (read more on pages 12-13). This plan includes a new mission to prepare students for success as leaders and professionals in Birmingham and beyond. We do this through a balanced approach to teaching, research, and service. Our vision is to be known for our innovative programs, impactful scholarship, and transformative service. Our Collat family is committed to living this mission and vision as we enter the new year focused on success. Thank you for your continued support of the Collat School of Business! Sincerely, Eric P. Collat Ofers New Entrepreneurship Degree Program Collat added its ninth undergraduate degree program in 2020 with the addition of a Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship. The new major supports a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem in Birmingham by providing students with hands- on experience and constant interactions with the local start- up community. The curriculum is specifcally designed to model the limited boundaries between traditional business functions in entrepreneurial ventures, a unique feature of UAB’s program.
